HBCSC
Mission Statement

The Home Builders Council (HBC) is a professional organization whose mission is to provide grants to programs that educate students about careers within the building industry and to provide scholarships to building industry professionals who seek to enhance their careers.

Professionals who belong to a BIA member company are eligible to join HBC as an individual. Many join to give back to the industry in which they earn a living. Many join for the personal growth, networking, camaraderie and social activities.

Brian Riggs, 2009-2010 HBC President

The Home Builders Council (HBC) has helped many individuals achieve their education and career goals. Over the years, HBC has provided scholarships to individuals seeking to enhance their careers. In addition to individual scholarships, HBC has awarded grants to a variety of programs.

It has been a trying few years as the Home Building Industry has been impacted by the economy. Even though we have had to change business practices to navigate the economy, HBC has stayed committed to its mission. It is exciting to be part of a group that has the passion to continue to make a difference and invest in our future. The HBC is dedicated to providing scholarships and grants to those that want to seek a career in the rewarding Homebuilding profession. Now, more than ever, it is important that we invest in our future and we have dedicated competent individuals for our future.

HBC will continue to host the Design Build Event on April 9th thru the 11th at the OC Fairgrounds. The event is HBC’s signature event and it is great to see the excitement and enthusiasm with young students coming from high schools and community colleges. It gives an opportunity for the builders to convey the message to their future work force that a career in the Home Building Industry can be fulfilling, satisfying and prosperous.

This year HBC has taken an active role with the Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA). BITA is a 4-year high school program prepares students for entry into the trades or apprenticeship programs. Students learn design skills and residential building techniques through development of floorplans, foundation plans, elevations, sections, details, and by building scale models. The course includes learning building codes, blueprint reading, and estimating. The California state budget crisis has resulted in decreased education funding for woodshop, construction technology, among other vocational classes. Along with BIA/OC, we will host an Annual Food & Wine Benefit on September 23, 2010. Great items will be auctioned off and proceeds will benefit the BITA program.

The 2010 Board of Directors is represented by great builders, consultants, and service providers dedicated to their companies and HBC. Professionals who belong to a BIA member company are eligible to join HBC as an individual. Many join to give back to the industry in which they earn a living. Many join for the personal growth, networking, camaraderie, and social activities.

The annual membership fee has been reduced this year to only $25. Please join, attend our events, and make a difference in our future!

Sincerely,

Brian Riggs

2010 HBC President
